Photo Shoot - Northborough Ward YW 4

In addition to the group shots and shopping cart shots, I did individual shots of each girl on a fun bench we found. The girls chose props and worked the camera like supermodels! They did a great job. I also took pictures on Sunday of some of the girls that couldn't be there at the fashion shoot. We did the pictures in front of a brick wall so all the shots would look similar.

I have over 300 pictures that I posted for the girls on my proofing site, but I'm going to leave you with this post for now. Until I take more pictures of them, of course. :) Check back for more stuff next week!

Photo Shoot - Northborough Ward YW 3

We had the good fortune of finding an abandoned shopping cart. It needed to be used.

A near collision with a garbage can. They handled it in style.

I've spent hours looking at these pictures, but I still grin every time I see them. I adore these girls. I had such a great time taking their pictures, but the best part was spending time with them.

Photo Shoot - Northborough Ward YW 2

More shots of the girls! The headshots in the last post were taken outside our church building on Sunday. Am. wanted a different look for the rest of the shots on the bulletin board, so she planned for another shoot on a Saturday afternoon. She had the girls wear a fun outfit and brought magazines and props for the girls if they wanted to use them. We went to an outdoor shopping center in a nearby town and found some great spots to shoot the girls. I did some more individual shots (which I'll post later), but we also did some fun group shots. The only unfortunate part was that we were missing a few of the girls that day.

Photobucket

Aren't they beautiful?

I love how the next series turned out. We had finished taking their individual pictures and I was looking for some unique group shots. I turned around to talk to one of the girls and saw the way this line of columns looked from where I was standing. I like how the girls in the background are posing and that it looks like they are there to support the girl that is in the front. At least, that's what it says to me when I look at them...

I took some shots of smaller groups. They turned out well, but these are the most memorable for me. I was laughing so much taking these I'm kind of surprised they are in focus.

Photobucket

I almost dropped my camera after I took this next one, I was laughing so hard.

Photobucket

The last shot of the day. And my favorite shot of all:

Photobucket

I used the "High School Musical" jump reference from the start, and they were on the same page immediately. (Lesson learned.) :) It took a few jumps to get the shot, but I love how it turned out.

Fashion headshots and shopping cart shots coming next!

Photo Shoot - Northborough Ward YW

In our church, each congregation has a youth group for the girls called Young Women's. I was lucky enough to work with the YW group in our congregation for about a year. Working with the YW is always one of my favorite assignments at church.

A few weeks ago, my cousin (and former YW of mine) Am. (seen here modeling for one of my portrait assignments) asked if I could take some pictures of she and the other girls. Am. was completing a project in which she was designing and creating a new informational bulletin board for the YW at the church building. She wanted pictures of all the girls on the bulletin board and had the idea of doing a more serious picture and a more fun, fashion inspired picture of each girl and of the girls interacting together. We've been taking pictures at church over the last couple Sundays. Here are their "serious" headshots. (I also need to thank [b]ecker for his headshot tips he posted on the [b]school. It helped so much to have a process to work with when setting these up.)

Jiggs & Emily

Jiggs and Emily are my grandma and grandpa. My dad's parents. When we were in Utah for the holidays, my brother wanted me to take pictures of them while I was visiting them. I'm so glad he suggested it.

Photobucket

I know that everyone thinks their grandma is amazing and wonderful, but mine really is. :) Both her parents died when she was young and she and her brother bounced around the foster care system until ending up with the couple that raised them. Her brother was later killed in the line of duty during the Korean War, leaving her the sole member of her family. She went to BYU Academy where she met my grandpa and raised their family of five boys and two girls. She's funny, very creative and artistic, remembers everything you tell her, loves to talk to you anytime you come by or call. She sends us cards for every occasion, and she always puts a little bit of confetti inside. It's so cute and festive - unless you forget the confetti is in there and you spill it everywhere as you open the card. It's just such a Grandma thing.

Photobucket

My grandpa is the youngest of a huge family. When I was growing up, he worked at Geneva Steel. I always loved when I could see (or smell) the plant, that I would think about grandpa and wonder what he was doing. Everyone calls him Jiggs. As I recall, Jiggs was a character in some comic strip when Grandpa was growing up and his siblings just started calling him that. Talk about a nickname that sticks! Grandpa coached all the boys in wrestling and started a wrestling club and legacy that is continuing on through my uncles and cousins. He is a sweet, reserved and pretty quiet man. But I'll never forget the first time I saw him - in the middle of a conversation - get on the floor and put one of my cousins in a wrestling hold. I'd never seen him move that fast. (It was all the more delightful since my cousin deserved what he was getting at the time.)

I have so many grandma stories, I really can't even start telling them. I'll never stop. The neat thing is, all of my cousins and my brother and sister have their own grandma stories too. I hope I'm a grandma like her someday.

Photobucket

One regret that I do have - when I was little, we didn't spend as much time with my dad's family as my mom's. That changed when I was in college and when I moved away. As a result, my sister and brother had much closer relationships with grandma and grandpa than I did for a very long time. When I moved back to Utah, I was teaching voice lessons after school in my classroom when I found out I was going to have to rent the room the following year. Knowing that my students wouldn't drive clear to my house for lessons, Grandma and Grandpa had me teach at their house. They rearranged their furnture so I could put my digital piano in their front room, they rearranged their lives so I could have the front room to myself to teach every afternoon, and Grandma even made sure to dust my piano and straighten up my music so everything looked nice when I came to teach in the afternoons. As I look back now, it was a huge sacrifice, but they made it seem like no big deal. And the best part was that I got to see them almost every day. I really cherish that time with them.

Grandma and Grandpa have a long, straight sidewalk leading up to their front door. When we were little and walked out to the car to go home, Grandma would always follow us down the walk and stand at their hedge and wave until we drove away. I remember how sad I was the first time I realized she couldn't walk to the hedge anymore. But, she does always stand at the door until we drive away.

Photobucket

When we were leaving on this day, I asked them to stand at the door so I could take their pictures. Grandma said something about not looking nice and not wanting her picture taken. When I told her I had been taking pictures of her and of Grandpa for the last hour, I'm not sure how excited she was. But when I told her I was on assignment from my brother Matt and that the two of us really wanted pictures of them, she seemed okay with it. I'm glad. Because I really love these pictures.

Photobucket

I've been thinking a lot this week about why I love photography as much as I do. As I've been working on the website and spending so much time on the business side of things, it was wonderful to fall in love with a set of pictures. These images bring back so many stories and memories for me of who my grandparents are, that they just make me happy. It's been a powerful thing to experience as I see the pictures. And the thought that I might be able to capture moments like that for other people is really humbling and makes me want to work even harder.

My stepmom wants my dad to use this shot to paint a picture of Grandma and Grandpa standing at the door. I'll post it here when he finishes it.

Photobucket

Grandma & Grandpa - thank you for being who you are. Thank you for raising such wonderful children and for keeping our family united. I love you so much.

P.S. Siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles - if you didn't get the online gallery link for these pictures through my Facebook message, send me an email at macy@macyrobisonphotography.com and I'll e-mail you the link so you can see the rest of the pictures.

I LOVE this...

I took this shot of my husband and son when we were visiting my grandparents earlier this year. I was so happy when I saw it. I forgot I had taken it. I love photography.

Pictures of the grandparents are coming...

It's new, it's new, it's new! Brand new!

Fun new changes around here! (And if, after reading the title to my post, you are singing one of the Playhouse Disney monkey songs in your head, I apologize. I see far more toddler TV than I should.)

New business name!

Macy Robison Photography, at your service. My husband and I discovered another MSR Photography as we were looking for new domain names for the website. I was contemplating changing the name anyway, and this discovery clinched it.

New logo!

New blog banner & background!

You're here, so I'm sure you noticed that one already, right? I'm happy I finally took the time to research and figure out how to put a background on the blog. I like the way it looks. For now...

But the biggest thing of all, and the reason why I have been going to bed late for the last week: (and eating the "7 hours of sleep" point for my Resolutionary Challenge)

NEW WEBSITE!!

When you have time, would you click through it and check it out? I would really love to hear what you think. We (my in-house technical expert and I)are working on a couple of fixes that we just discovered, and I'm sure I'll tweak some of the text and content, but the website is up! If you have questions or suggestions about the website, send me an e-mail or leave a comment.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement. I'm excited about all the opportunities I have had so far and some I have coming up. I'm a pretty lucky gal.
